...Moles are generally not seen in infants, and they gradually increase in number from around the age of 10, but those that are larger than a certain size or have dense hairs, called tierfell nevus, are present from birth. Flat brown spots, called nevus spilus, are often noticed within a few months of birth, but some appear on the shoulders, chest, etc. after the age of 10.

It is caused by a thickening of epidermal cells, often arranged in a linear pattern, with a rough and hard surface that can range in color from brown to blackish brown.
