Ethnoscience

A knowledge system based on the unique views of nature held by various cultural spheres around the world. Also known as ethnoscience. In the past, there was a strong tendency to view only modern Western science, which originated in Europe, as a universal knowledge system, but in recent years this has been reconsidered, and the idea that science specific to each ethnic group can exist has been advocated. Examples include Eastern medicine, such as acupuncture and moxibustion. This way of thinking arose from the importance of understanding the unique perceptions of nature and life of each ethnic group. 地球上のさまざまな文化圏が有する独自の自然観に立脚した知識体系。民族科学ともいう。かつてはヨーロッパを起源とする西洋近代科学のみを普遍的な知識体系とみなす傾向が強かったが，近年それが見直され，民族固有の科学が存在しうるという考えが提唱されるようになった。鍼術や灸などの東洋医学がその例としてあげられる。民族固有の自然や生命に対する認識を理解することの重要性から生じた考え方である。（→科学，自然科学）
