...North China (North China) refers to the area around Shanghai, the northernmost open port, from the perspective of the British who based their base in Hong Kong after the Opium Wars. It later became a supplement to the North China Daily News (Zi Lin Xi Bao) (1864-1949), and both ceased publication in 1949.
