...North China (North China) refers to the area around Shanghai, the northernmost open port, from the perspective of the British who based their base in Hong Kong after the Opium Wars. It later became a supplement to the North China Daily News (Zi Lin Xi Bao) (1864-1949), and both ceased publication in 1949. Both were the organs of the British Bureau of Works, and the contents of their reports, including economic articles, were highly reliable.
