A British literary weekly magazine, commonly known by its abbreviation TLS. It began as a supplement to The Times in 1902, and later became independent. It devotes ample space to new publications from every country and field, and publishes critical essays, mainly book reviews. It is the world's leading book review magazine in terms of its breadth and rigor. Since its first editor-in-chief, BL Richmond, it has been supported by the insight of such renowned editors as AP Price-Jones, and has maintained anonymity, but in 1974, the anonymity system was abolished at the discretion of the then editor-in-chief, critic J. Gross. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
