A prefecture-level city in the eastern end of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. It has jurisdiction over three city districts and three counties, and acts as the acting jurisdiction for one county-level city (as of 2016). It has a population of 3.403 million (2014). It is located at the confluence of the Xunjiang and Guijiang rivers, and downstream from Wuzhou the Xijiang river is the mainstream of the Pearl River. It is a key location for water transportation in the Pearl River system, and has developed as a commercial city. Industries such as shipbuilding, machinery, papermaking, electronics, chemicals, textiles, and optical equipment are located here, and it also has unique industries such as bamboo crafts, wooden furniture, and pine resin. It is famous for its snake farms, which are an essential ingredient in Cantonese cuisine. The city is home to many scenic spots, including the famous hot spring Hyousei and Volcano Yuen, where it is said that Nanyue King Zhao Tuo buried his sword.

中国南部、広西(こうせい)チワン族自治区東端の地級市。3市轄区、3県を管轄し、1県級市の管轄代行を行う(2016年時点)。人口340万3000(2014)。潯江(じんこう)と桂江(けいこう)の合流点に位置し、梧州より下流が西江(せいこう)で珠江(しゅこう)の本流である。珠江水系の水上交通の要地であり、商業都市として発達した。造船、機械、製紙、電子、化学、紡織、光学機器などの工業が立地し、また竹細工、木製家具、松脂(まつやに)などの特色ある工業もある。広東(カントン)料理に欠かせないヘビの養殖場が有名。市内には名泉氷井(ひょうせい)や南越(なんえつ)王趙佗(ちょうた)が剣を埋めたと伝えられる火山夕焔(かざんせきえん)などの名勝がある。
