A large region of China. Refers to the area covering the three provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River (Changjiang), as well as Shanghai. In Japan, it is often included in Central China. In China, a large administrative region was established in 1950 that had jurisdiction over the six provinces of Shandong, Jiangsu (including Nanjing), Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, and Taiwan, as well as Shanghai, but it was abolished in 1954. As the current economic cooperation zone, East China includes Shanghai and the seven provinces of Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, and Taiwan.
