…Julius Africanus gave the date of creation as 5501 BC. In Alexandria, Panodoros gave it 5493 BC, while Annanos gave it 5492 BC. Church fathers such as Hippolytus and Clement adopted the former and set the date of creation as March 25, 5493 BC (later, in the 7th century, this was changed to the Byzantine date of 5508 BC). The Byzantine date was calculated as 5509 BC, but later, in 630, Georgios changed it to 5508 BC (the beginning of the year was September 1) to match the indictio (see below). …
