Bhakra Dam

Japanese: バークラー・ダム(英語表記)Bhakra Dam
Bhakra Dam
A multipurpose dam built by damming the Sutlej River in the Siwalik Hills on the border between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in northwestern India. Construction began in 1948 as the first comprehensive development in independent India, and was completed in 1963. The dam is 226m high and 518m wide, and behind it is Lake Gobind, which has a storage capacity of 7.8 billion cubic meters. It is integrated with secondary dams, power plants, chemical fertilizer and heavy water plants in Nangal and other areas, and is called the Bhakra-Nangal Project. In addition to flood prevention, the project aims to generate hydroelectric power (output 1.2 million kW) and irrigation (total irrigation canal length 4,500 km, beneficial arable land area 2.37 million hectares).
