A town in the Sunto district in northeastern Shizuoka prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Sakawa River and the eastern slope of Mt. Fuji, and is connected by the Gotemba Line. The spinning industry has developed since the mid-Meiji period. Subashiri in the west is the trailhead for Mt. Fuji, and is home to the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Fuji School and Fuji Speedway.
