Oyabe River

A river that flows through the western part of Toyama Prefecture. It is a first-class river. It flows from the eastern slope of Mt. Daimon (1,572 meters) on the border with Ishikawa Prefecture, at the southwestern edge of the prefecture, and flows west of the Tonami Plain toward the foot of the mountain, passing through Nanto City, Oyabe City, and Takaoka City, before emptying into Toyama Bay. Along the way, it joins many tributaries, including the Uchio River, Yamada River, and Shibue River. It is 68 kilometers long and has a drainage area of ​​667 square kilometers. During the Edo period, it was convenient for boat transportation from the mouth of the river to Tsuzawa, carrying rice as tax. As it flows along the end of the Sho River alluvial fan, it is a drainage river for agricultural water for the Tonami Plain. The multi-purpose Tori Dam is located upstream, and it supplies irrigation water to the downstream area, as well as the prefectural Oyabe River No. 1 and No. 2 power plants. The mouth of the river is Fushiki Port, and the river basin from Takaoka city to Fushiki is an industrial area with many factories of various kinds.

富山県の西部を流れる川。一級河川。県の南西端、石川県境の大門(だいもん)山（1572メートル）の東斜面から流れ、礪波平野(となみへいや)の西を山麓(さんろく)寄りに南砺(なんと)市、小矢部市、高岡市域を流れて富山湾に注ぐ。途中打尾(うちお)川、山田川、渋江(しぶえ)川など多くの支流を合する。延長68キロメートル、流域面積667平方キロメートル。江戸時代には河口から津沢(つざわ)まで年貢米などを運ぶ舟運の便があった。庄(しょう)川扇状地の末端に沿って流れるため礪波平野の農業用水などの排水河川となっている。上流に多目的の刀利ダム(とうりだむ)があり、下流域に灌漑(かんがい)用水を供給するとともに、県営の小矢部川第一と第二発電所がある。河口は伏木(ふしき)港となっており、高岡市街から伏木までの流域は各種の工場が多い工業地帯である。
