Content analysis has revealed that the Palatine Anthology was not created suddenly in the Byzantine period, but was in fact based on the results of several compilations of elegiac poetry since the 1st century BC. The first was the Crown edited by Meleagros around 70 BC, the Crown poem of the same name "Picking and Weaving Flowers of Helicon" by Philippos around 40 BC, the epigram collection entitled The Ring compiled by Agathias in Constantinople in the mid-6th century AD, and the Great Anthology re-edited by Kōnstantinos Kephalas in the 9th century, which became the original source of the Palatine Anthology. The epigrams of the great poets of the classical and Hellenistic periods included in the Anthology are revered as models for Western poets since the Renaissance, and have had a tremendous influence. ...

…　《パラティナ詞華集》はビザンティン時代ににわかに成立したものではなく，実は前1世紀以来，数次にわたるエレゲイア詩集編纂の成果を踏まえていることが，内容分析から明らかとなっている。前70年ころのメレアグロスMeleagros編の《冠》，前40年ころのフィリッポスPhilipposが〈ヘリコンの花を摘み編んだ〉という，やはり同名の《冠》詩集，後6世紀中葉アガティアスAgathiasがコンスタンティノープルで集成した《環》と題するエピグラム集，そしてさらに9世紀コンスタンティノス･ケファラスKōnstantinos Kephalasによって再編集された大詞華集が生まれ，これが《パラティナ詞華集》の祖本となったのである。詞華集に収められた古典期，ヘレニズム期の大詩人たちのエピグラムは，ルネサンス期以降の西欧の詩人たちの範と仰がれ，甚大な影響を及ぼしている。…
