[Field of Use]
Aerial photographs have a wide range of applications as a source of information about the Earth's surface and the many phenomena unfolding on it. The field that studies the use of aerial photographs is called photogrammetry (broad sense), and can be broadly divided into photogrammetry (narrow sense), which is the field that focuses on surveying, and photointerpretation, which is the field that focuses on interpretation. Photogrammetry is the use of the geometric properties of photographs to clarify the position and shape of landforms and features (objects distributed on the Earth's surface), while photointerpretation is the determination of the properties and functions of landforms and features by stereoscopic viewing from the images in the photograph.
