…It is also called kuśa grass. Eragrostis cynosuroides is a representative example, but various similar plants have been used depending on the time and region. In particular, its purifying power (the ability to ward off evil powers) is emphasized, and in Vedic rituals it is used in a variety of ways, such as sprinkling it on the ceremonial grounds and ceremonial fires to purify them, processing it into ritual implements to purify soma and ghee, as a broom to sweep the ceremonial grounds, and as a seat for plates to invite the gods and offer offerings. It is also important to use it as a talisman (woven into bracelets), which can be seen in the magic of the Atharva-Veda and even in modern folklore.
