It is a colorless liquid with an unpleasant, pungent odor. Melting point -134.5°C, boiling point 45°C. 0.938. 1.414. Soluble in organic solvents, slightly soluble in water. The chlorine atom in allyl chloride is highly reactive and is replaced by water to form allyl alcohol. It is irritating to the eyes and respiratory tract. It is used in the synthesis of allyl compounds for synthetic fragrances.
