Riden

Japanese:
Riden
In the late Heian period, this refers to fields on which the provincial government office imposed taxes and official property without conducting field inspections. Around the middle of the 12th century, a dispute arose over the system of official property rates for the public fields of Todaiji-owned Kuroda and Tamataki manors in Iga Province. According to historical documents from that time, there were three methods for collecting official property from public fields of Todaiji-owned Kuroda and Tamataki manors: (1) determining the number of fields according to the old field documents without conducting field inspections, (2) determining the number of fields through field inspections, and (3) determining the number of fields by submitting a request for profitable fields without conducting field inspections. During the process of the transformation of the ancient public land acquisition system, a profitable field rate collection system emerged in which profitable fields were allocated to the fields, and eventually the fields that were to bear the profitable fields were fixed, and the terms "profitable fields" and "profitable fields" were established.
