O. Henry

Japanese: オー・ヘンリー(英語表記)O.Henry
O. Henry
1862‐1910
An American short story writer. His real name was William Sydney Porter. He was widely loved for his streamlined, witty style of storytelling and his unexpected endings. He was born in North Carolina. While working as a banker, he was accused of embezzlement and fled to Central America, but returned to the United States after learning that his wife was in critical condition. He was arrested and spent three years in prison. He began writing short stories while in prison, and after his release he lived in New York and became active as a writer. Riding the wave of the boom in commercial magazines at the time, he was writing one story a week at one point, leaving behind about 600 works.
