Glucocorticoid

...A general term for steroid hormones produced and secreted by the adrenal cortex, and also called corticoids or corticosteroids, including synthetic substances with the same action. Adrenal cortical hormones include the glucocorticoids cortisol and cortisone, the mineralocorticoids aldosterone, and the adrenal androgens dehydroepiandrosterone and androstenedione. Cortisol and cortisone promote gluconeogenesis from proteins in the liver, as well as exhibit anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects.
