POP - Pop

Japanese: POP - ポップ
POP - Pop
A protocol used when email software receives email from an email server. After authenticating the user using a username and password, the software connects to the email server and downloads the email. It also has a function to instruct the server to delete emails and mark them as read/unread. Currently, POP3, version 3 of POP, is widely used. Note that because POP sends usernames and passwords in plain text, a protocol called APOP (Authenticated Post Office Protocol), which encrypts passwords to enhance security, is also used.
