…Peter Scheemakers (1691-1781), John Michael Rysbrack (1694-1770), and Louis-François Roubiliac (c. 1705-62) are representative sculptors of this period, the first two originally from Flanders and the latter originally from France. From the second half of the 18th century to the first half of the 19th century, Joseph Nollekens (1737-1823) from Antwerp, Francis Chantrey (1781-1841), Richard Westmacott (1775-1856), and J. Flaxman were active, and their style was close to the continental neoclassicism of the time. Victorian sculpture (1837-1901), like painting, is rich in diversity but lacks originality. …
