Yamabiko Karyo

Japanese: 山彦河良 - やまびこかりょう

A shamisen performer of Kato-bushi. There are six generations. The first and sixth generations are famous. (1) First generation: Years of birth and death unknown. A pupil of the first Yamahiko Genshiro. Originally named Yoshinami. From 1758 (8th year of Horeki), he played the shamisen of the fourth generation Masumi Kato. In 1761, he performed with the fourth generation Kato in "Sukeroku Yukari no Edo Sakura" at the Ichimura Theater. The "Sukeroku" that remains to this day is composed by him. His whereabouts after 1764 (1st year of Meiwa) are unknown. (2) Second generation: Years of birth and death unknown. A pupil of the first generation Genshiro. Originally named Yoshinami II. Active from 1774 (3rd year of An'ei) to 1782 (2nd year of Tenmei).

河東節の三味線方。6世まである。初世と6世が有名。(1)初世　生没年不詳。初世山彦源四郎の門人。初名良波。1758年(宝暦8)以降4世十寸見河東（ますみかとう）の三味線を弾く。61年の《助六由縁（ゆかりの）江戸桜》では4世河東と市村座に出演。今日まで残る《助六》はこの人の作曲。64年(明和1)以後の消息不詳。(2)2世　生没年不詳。初世源四郎の門人。初名2世良波。1774年(安永3)から1782年(天明2)まで活動。
