The leaves are feathery and finely divided, and in summer, two bright red, pink, or white star-shaped flowers grow on each peduncle that emerges from the leaf axil. The seeds are black-brown and slender. Plants of the Quamoclit (English name: star-glory) genus are climbing annual plants distributed in tropical regions, with about 10 species. In addition to Hosobarukousou, Hagoromorukousou and Marubarukousou are also cultivated for ornamental purposes. Hagoromorukousou Q. sloteri Nieuwl. (illustration) is also called momijirukousou and commonly known as Datura stramonium, and was created in America around 1917 by crossing Hakoromorukousou with Uchiwarukousou Q. coccinea (L.) Moench (English name: star ipomoea). …

…ヒルガオ科のつる性一年草（イラスト）。ホソバルコウソウともいう。葉は羽毛状に細裂し，夏に鮮紅色，桃色，白色などの星形の花を葉腋（ようえき）から出る花梗に2花ずつつける。種子は黒褐色で細長い。　ルコウソウ属Quamoclit(英名star‐glory)の植物は熱帯地方に約10種が分布するつる性の一年草である。観賞用に栽培されるのはホソバルコウソウのほかに，ハゴロモルコウソウやマルバルコウソウがある。ハゴロモルコウソウQ.sloteri Nieuwl.(イラスト)はモミジルコウソウとも，また俗にチョウセンアサガオとも呼ばれ，1917年ごろアメリカでルコウソウとウチワルコウQ.coccinea (L.)
