The body is composed of protoplasm with a central vesicle inside and a skeleton or shell, has pseudopodia, and lives a floating life throughout its life. The central vesicle is mucilaginous and contains the nucleus. The protoplasm is polyvesicular and helps with floating, and is divided into an inner endoplasm and an outer exoplasm by the central vesicle membrane. There are two types of pseudopodia that develop radially outward: long, linear axolotls that penetrate the center and protrude outward, and thin filamentous pseudopodia that protrude from the surface of the exoplasm.
