It is also called "axe". It is a triclinic mineral with the chemical composition Ca 4 (Fe,Mn) 2 Al 2 [B 2 Si 8 O 30 ] (OH) 2 , and was named after the Greek word axinē, which means axe, because of its axe-like crystal shape. It has a vitreous luster and is found in various colors such as brown, purple, and gray, and those rich in Mn are yellow. It has a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, a specific gravity of 3.27 to 3.35, and becomes electrically charged (pyroelectric) when heated to 200 to 300°C. It is found in contact metasomatic deposits and in geodes such as granite. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
