Japanese: 女川[町] - おながわ

A town in Oshika County in eastern Miyagi Prefecture. Facing Onagawa Bay and connected by the Ishinomaki Line, Onagawa has a good port and was known as a base for inshore whaling. Currently, it is a fishing base, with large catches of Pacific saury and salmon. Coho salmon farming and seafood processing are also popular. The town is home to the Tohoku Fisheries Research Institute, the Tohoku University Onagawa Planetary Observatory, and the Tohoku Electric Power Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant. Eshima Island is a breeding ground for black-tailed gulls and Rhinoceros auklets (a natural monument). The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. ^{65.35 km2} . 10,051 people (2010).
