Its characteristics are, first, the formulation of a three-movement form (fast-slow-fast), allowing the soloist to fully demonstrate his virtuosity in the fast movement, and, second, the establishment of the ritornello form, in which the two ends of the concerto alternate regularly between solo and tutti, giving a clear, sculptural quality to a form that was still fluid in the works of Corelli. Vivaldi also broke new ground in the field of programmatic concertos, such as the famous Four Seasons (published in 1725) in Op. 8.
