...A movement that developed in the northern German city of Münster as part of the urban Reformation movement. In early 1533, the Reformation received official recognition from the bishop, but it intensified under the leadership of preacher Bernhard Rothmann (c. 1495-?), and in February 1534 the Anabaptists legally seized control of the city. On the other hand, the Melchiorite Anabaptists, who had been persecuted in the Netherlands, viewed Münster as the New Jerusalem and flocked to the city in large numbers. *Some of the terminology that mentions "Rothmann, B." is listed below.
