…The clown (vidū‐śaka) was a Brahmin of descent, but was uneducated and had a strong appetite for food, and performed a humorous role as a good companion to the protagonist, the king. There were also other types of people, such as the connoisseur (viṭa) who was skilled in entertainment and the arts, and the śakāra, who was of lowly origin, easily angered, liked beautiful clothes, and made boasts.
