A vertical shaft in an ancient Chinese tomb where chariots and horses were buried as burial offerings. There was a custom of burying chariots and horses with the tombs of nobles. For example, four horses, one chariot, and one human bone were discovered in Tomb No. 175 (Yin Dynasty) in Dasikong Village, Anyang County. The chariot was in the center, facing south, with two horses lying on each side of the long pole. A two-horse and a four-horse chariot were discovered in Tomb No. 2 (Western Zhou Dynasty) in Zhangjiapo, Chang'an County, and 11 chariots were discovered in the north row and eight in the south row in Tomb No. 131 (Warring States Dynasty) in Liulige, Huixian County. All of these chariots are two-wheeled, with a long pole in the center and two to four horses on either side.
