Sārī (English spelling) Sari

...Because of its political insignificance, Islamization was the latest among the former Sassanid territories, and it maintained its independence until the mid-8th century, more than a century after the Arab conquest of the rest of the country. During the late Abbasid period, its capital was Āmol, and under the Tahirid dynasty, Sāri. It came under Tahirid control in the 9th century, suffered Mongol invasions in the 13th century, and was part of the Timurid Empire in the 15th century.
