Saustatar

Japanese: Saustatar
Saustatar

...Although much is unknown about their language, personal names such as Tushratta, Artatama, and Biridashva, names of gods such as Mithra, Indra, and Varuna, and numerals found in the Kikkuri manuscripts excavated at Boğazköy, suggest a connection to Sanskrit. The Mitanni Kingdom reached its greatest power during the time of the Saustatar in the 16th and 15th centuries BC, and its territory included almost all of northern Syria, including Kizzuwatna and Alarakh (Tell Atchana) in southeastern Asia Minor, and extended to the areas of Nuzi and Kirkuk on the east bank of the Tigris River in the east. The background to the expansion of their power is thought to be that Mitanni horsemanship was superior to that of other parts of the Orient, as can be inferred from the fact that the Hittites invited the Mitanni horse trainer Kikkuli.
