...Its English name is Spanish mackerel, and it is said to be a delicious fish similar to tuna. There are three species in the waters off Japan: Scomberomorus niphonius (illustration), S. commerson , and S. sinensis . Of these, Scomberomorus is the most widely distributed, found from southern Hokkaido in the north to Australia in the south, and is the most popular species in the waters off Japan.
