Serkin, P.

…American pianist of Austrian origin. He studied composition under J. Marx and Schoenberg in Vienna. He made his debut in Vienna in 1915. From 1920, he frequently performed with A. Busch and his chamber orchestra, and was especially praised for his performances of JS Bach's works. As he was Jewish, he left Europe with the rise of the Nazis, and in 1939 he settled in the United States and obtained American citizenship. Since then, in addition to his performing activities, he has taught at the Curtis Institute of Music and organized the Marlboro Music Festival. …
