…After the Renaissance, in Belgium, the Netherlands, England and other countries, tiles with an S-shaped cross section (pantiles) that combined flat and round tiles began to be used, and after various improvements were made, they became widespread. (3) Wooden tiles (shingles) are made of boards about 12 cm wide and 30 cm long, laid with a footing of about 10 cm. They were used in forested areas such as Scandinavia, Germany and Russia, and were the most popular roofing material in the United States as well.

…ルネサンス以降，ベルギー，オランダ，イギリスなどで，平瓦と丸瓦を一体化したS字形断面の瓦(桟瓦pantile)が用いられはじめ，各種の改良が加えられて普及した。(3)木瓦（きがわら）(シングルshingle)は，幅12cm前後，長さ30cm前後の板を，葺足（ふきあし）10cm前後にして葺き上げていくもので，スカンジナビア，ドイツ，ロシアのような森林地帯で用いられ，アメリカ合衆国でも最も愛用された屋根葺き材であった。
