Shirazad (English spelling)

The source of her name, Shirāzād (meaning "Lion of Freedom") and Shahrāzād (meaning "City of Freedom"), are both Iranian names, so some say she is Shirin, the protagonist of an epic poem written by Nizami. Rimsky-Korsakov's symphonic suite Scheherazade (1888) is also based on Tales of the Thousand and One Nights, and the ballet based on this piece (choreographed by Fokine, premiered in 1910) is also famous. …
