… In the 20th century, people of common origins first incorporated their hometowns and social classes into literature, giving rise to regional literature, peasant literature, and proletarian literature. The leaders of this movement were the novelist Johan Skjoldborg (1861-1936), whose protagonists were peasants; the lyric poet Jeppe Aakjær (1866-1930); the female writer Marie Bregendal (1867-1940); the evolutionist Jensen, winner of the 1944 Nobel Prize in Literature; and the proletarian writer Andersen Nexø. After World War I, many writers emerged who were influenced by various international trends of thought. …
