Sklabēnoi (English spelling)

...The Venedi may be regarded as a general term for the West Slavic tribes. From the mid-6th century, the Slavs, under the name Sklabēnoi (Sclaveni), often appeared in the works of the Byzantine historian Procopius and the Gothic historian Jordanes. Based on linguistic data, the area inhabited by the ancient Slavs is thought to be the eastern region of Europe, centered on the Vistula River basin, stretching from the Elbe River in the west to the Dniester River basin in the east.
