Cap lamp - Cap lamp (English spelling)

A personal lighting device consisting of a head piece (lamp) attached to the front of a safety helmet, a battery attached to a belt around the waist or hung from a backpack, and the two connected by a cabtyre cable (a rubber-insulated electric wire). It is also called a portable safety light. There are lead-acid battery and alkaline battery types, and the illumination on a vertical surface two meters away is 50 lux or more. It first came into use in coal mines where there was a risk of gas and coal dust explosions, but is now widely used in general mines and tunnel construction.
