Snobbism

...This kind of attitude or disposition is called snobbery. There is also the word snobbism, but it is not used very often. The origin of the word is unclear, but it was originally an 18th century slang for a shoemaker, and was then used by Cambridge University officials to refer to ordinary townspeople. In the 19th century, it became a derogatory term for people of lower classes or those with poor upbringing or taste.
