The speech organ can be broadly divided into the oral cavity, nasal cavity, pharynx, and larynx. Exhaled air first passes through the larynx, which contains the Adam's apple, and enters the pharynx, from which it leaves either the oral cavity or the nasal cavity (see Figure 1).
