Spinal reflex

Reflexes whose reflex center is in the spinal cord are collectively called spinal reflexes, which are divided into segmental reflexes that are localized to a few spinal segments (short segments corresponding to each vertebra) and intersegmental reflexes that span many spinal segments. In addition to the flexion reflex mentioned above, segmental reflexes include the stretch reflex (when a muscle is stretched, it contracts), tendon reflex (a type of stretch reflex that occurs when a tendon is tapped to stretch the muscle for a short period of time), and crossed extension reflex (the limb opposite to the limb in which the flexion reflex occurs is extended).
