Sri Paramesvara Deva Shah

...The Thai army, based in Nakhon Si Thammarat in the north-central part of the Malay Peninsula, attacked Melaka, trying to regain control of the city. King Sri Paramesvara Deva Shah (reigned 1445-56) resisted the Thai attack and defended Melaka's independence. He used Islam to interpret his resistance against the Thai as an Islamic holy war, and after his victory he called himself Sultan Muzaffar Shah.
