...the phenomenon in which bacteria resistant to drugs grow abnormally, mainly when chemotherapy is used. In 1946, L. Weinstein of the United States observed that an infection caused by other resistant bacteria occurred when chemotherapy with antibiotics was being administered after an infection had occurred, and he named this a new disease. In 1954, he proposed a new term, superinfection. Meanwhile, in France, J. Brisou published a paper titled "Chronic Infections by Selection and Substitution."
