…The most notable is the rise of keyboard music using the organ and harpsichord. J.P. Sweelink (1562-1621), who was active in Amsterdam in the early 17th century, was a representative composer. In organ music, he trained many organists from North Germany and became the founder of the North German organ school. In harpsichord music, he absorbed the tradition of English virginal music and created a unique style that incorporated high technique. At that time, only psalm singing by the congregation was permitted in Calvinist church services, and organ playing was prohibited, but organ concerts for citizens organized by city authorities were frequently held in various places. …

From [Organ]

...An aerophone instrument consisting of three parts: pipes, a blower, and a keyboard. The word originates from the Greek word organon (meaning "tool"). There are various sizes of organs depending on the purpose of use and the size of the space in which they are installed, but they can be broadly divided into portable ones and those fixed to buildings. The former include the Portativ, which is played with one hand while placed on the lap, the Positiv, which is a box-shaped organ, and the Regal, which has only a reed stop. The latter include small organs with one keyboard and several stops, and large organs with two to five keyboards and a dozen or even a hundred stops, many of which have a foot keyboard (pedals) that is played with both feet.
