In the 15th century, during the War of the Roses, the rose emblems of the House of York and the House of Lancaster were said to have been attached to tabards, which are equivalent to the Japanese jinbaori. Around that time, the development of dyeing technology made it possible to dye fabric in large quantities, and uniforms began to be worn by servants and soldiers. …
