…In 1765, he established a knight's school to educate the children of the szlachta, and also published a newspaper called Monitor, which imitated the British newspaper Spectator, in an effort to spread the ideas of the Enlightenment. In 1766, he ordered Andrzej Zamoyski (1716-92), who was the chancellor of the kingdom, to prepare a reform plan aimed at restricting the liberum veto (free veto). In response, the republicans formed a confederation (Confederacy) in Radom in 1767 to prevent the reform plan from being implemented, and requested Russian intervention. …
