Tapié, M.

…refers to a trend in abstract painting that developed in Europe, especially in France, in the 1950s. The term “informel” was coined in 1952 by French critic Michel Tapié (1909-1987). Abstract painting before World War II had become stale, settling on geometric abstraction.
