Born in 1766. Studied under Fujita Sadasuke in Edo. Engaged in surveying the Tokai and Hokuriku coasts under Ino Tadataka. Later returned to his hometown of Itahana in Kozuke (Gunma Prefecture) and raised disciples such as Kenmochi Akiyuki. Died on January 26, 1832. Age 69. His real surname was Sudo. He was commonly known as Sutegoro and Ryosuke. His pen name was Shigan. His works include "Kohai Shinjutsu Benkai" and "Hoshi Sokuryou Jiroku".
