...The monistic theory, which holds that the oldest pottery was created in Western Asia and spread to various regions, was once prevalent. However, the oldest pottery in Western Asia is reported to be about 10,000 years old using carbon-14 dating (Ganj Dareh, Iran), which means that the oldest pottery in Japan is 12,000 years old. It is not known whether this is the true value, but in any case, the pluralistic theory, which holds that pottery was created in several places, is now more prevalent.
