Mr. Okabe

There are many clans all over Japan that bear the place name Okabe, but the following two clans are particularly famous in history. (1) Musashi Seven Clans Ono Family Inomata Clan Originated in Okabe, Hanzawa County, Musashi Province (present Okabe Town, Osato County, Saitama Prefecture). It began when Inomata Tadakane's son Tadatsuna called himself Okabe Rokutayu. His grandson Rokuyata Tadazumi fought alongside Minamoto no Yoshitomo in the Hogen and Heiji Rebellions, and joined Yoshitsune's army as a retainer of Minamoto no Yoritomo in the Battle of Ichinotani, where he killed Satsuma no Kami Taira no Tadatsune and achieved fame. In part because of the fact that the clan was given land in various places as a reward for its meritorious service, there are many Okabe clans in various places who claim to be descendants of Tadazumi, admiring his fame.

日本各地に岡部の地名を負う氏が多く存するが，歴史上とくに著名なのは次の2氏。(1)武蔵七党小野姓猪股党　武蔵国榛沢郡岡部(現，埼玉県大里郡岡部町)より起こる。猪股忠兼の子忠綱が岡部六太夫を称したのに始まる。その孫六弥太忠澄は保元･平治の乱に源義朝に従って戦い，一ノ谷の戦では源頼朝の家人として義経軍に加わり，薩摩守平忠度を討ち取って勇名をはせた。勲功賞として各地に所領を給与された関係もあるが，その高名を慕って各地には忠澄の子孫を名のる岡部氏が少なくない。
