[Symptoms]
Children with rickets show symptoms such as irritability, paleness, and fatigue. The joints of the wrists, elbows, and knees are swollen, and they cry when touched because of the pain. In infants, the anterior fontanel of the head may close late, and craniotabes may develop, causing the skull bones to thin and become concave when pressed firmly with the fingertips. If left untreated, bone deformations such as bow legs, knock-knees, and curvature of the spine (scoliosis) may occur, and height may stunt.
